WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PHYSICAL THERAPIST AND PHYSIOTHERAPIST?
There are a small number of differences between Physical Therapists and Physiotherapists.
Physical Therapists all work within a private practice and may be affiliated with sports clubs etc. A Physical Therapist is a specialist in assessing and treating musculoskeletal injuries and sports injuries. That is, muscle aches, pains, strains and other various injuries, caused by muscle, joint, tendon, nerve, or ligament damage, while using a more hands techniques such as dry needling and or Neuromuscular Therapy.
Physiotherapy mostly focuses primarily on hospital work and or in a medical practice environment. Physiotherapy mostly uses electrical modalities, such as laser, and various other non-manual treatments. A Physiotherapist in some cases will also use a hands on technique.
In our opinion its best to visit a Physical Therapist with a sports and Personal Training background to insured you are prescribed the right exercises to help alleviate your condition .Rather you choose a Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist we both have one thing in common and that is to get you back to 100% mobility and recovery.
With today’s current restrictions and possible exposure to Covid 19 a private practice for your treatment is a wise choice. Visiting a public medical environment could put you more at risk and with the backlog in medical care in general it may be more difficult to get a suitable appointment.
Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy are recognised and accepted by most major health insurance companies. Check your private insurance policy for your entitlements.
If choosing a Physical Therapist just make sure they are registered with A.N.M.P.T. or I.A.P.T.
In conclusion, if you choose Physical Therapy or Physiotherapy is totally your own personal choice.
DO I NEED A GP REFERRAL BEFORE STARTING?
You don’t need a doctor’s referral as a private patient at our clinic. Physios are fully qualified and trained in the assessment and management of sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. In return with our professional expertise and experience, physios in the majority of cases are the primary point of contact for musculoskeletal complaints and issues.
